No Sugar-Coating This Update: Why We Pressed Pause on Boki’s Digital Store

An honest update: Boki’s Digital Store is currently closed.

We’ve been known to sugar-coat things every now and then (literally — think of all the desserts). This is not one of them. This affects us all.

Five years ago, I paid $1,000 for a three-door commercial freezer from Grown and Gathered in Quincy, IL (bonus points if you remember that lovely organic grocer!). This freezer was a turning point in our business. It allowed us to buy more in bulk, helped us reduce waste, and ultimately be able to serve more families and continue making a bigger impact. It was the best money I had ever spent — until it wasn’t.

As time went on, our latest investment needed a new compressor. Repeated repairs became costly, and our first large business investment had reached the end of its life.

As the demand for our freezer meals changed, the freezer became a bottleneck. We faced reliability risks — if it went down, we were putting our inventory of hard work in jeopardy.

Out with the Old — In with the New

We replaced the one large unit with two energy-efficient upright freezers. It was about this time I decided we needed a system reset, and the best option was to temporarily close Boki’s Digital Store.

Moving the old unit out was physically demanding, but clearing the space freed our mental bandwidth needed for this reset. Pausing the store allowed us room to reconfigure our frozen meal workflow using our new freezers!

July has our schedule packed with catering for several friends, family reunions, and weddings.

July marks a routine visit from our county health inspector. As if that isn’t enough, the end of the month brings the Adams County Fair — where we get to combine friendship, work, food, volunteering, and fun. It is my favorite time of the year.

We are fully booked for catering in July and August. Weekend catering availability in 2026 is limited. We're booking into 2027 — let us know your date, so we can check availability and save it for you 😉!

This tactical pause of the store is necessary for us to continue doing frozen meals for years to come.

I’m excited to fill these new freezers with a variety of wholesome and delicious options to simplify your life!

Once the new freezers are stocked, the digital store will reopen with fresher, higher-quality meals. I can guarantee the food will be prepared with the same love and values that has brought us to this point. The store will reopen mid-August.
