Golden Collective Matrimony - Part 2

The duo that is Golden Collective became quick friends of Boki’s Kitchen. Bob and I enjoyed chatting with Patrick and Emily at a variety of Quincy, IL vendor events. Their products are meaningful, unique, and easy on the eyes— just like the humans they are! As many things in life, it was by chance that we catered Patrick and Emily’s wedding reception.

Remembering their wedding date from a previous conversation, another wedding reception catering request came in for their exact date. I decided to text Emily (like I said, we became *fast* friends) to make sure I had their date down right. I felt weird about reaching out because I didn’t want to be presumptuous in thinking they would invite us to their wedding let alone want us to cater it, yet scheduling another catering for someone I didn’t know on their big day didn’t sit right with me.

I felt vulnerable in that moment of awkwardly reaching out, but Emily was grateful and explained that she hadn’t considered any caterers yet (and acknowledged it was something on her wedding to-do list). She told us that if we’d rather be guests and not have to work the reception, she could find someone else to cater. As I mentioned before, Patrick and Emily are the sweetest couple, and we felt honored they wanted Boki’s Kitchen at the Golden Collective matrimony. I laugh now thinking about how nervous I was about reaching out to Emily about their wedding. In reality, it helped us become even closer.

You may be thinking, “Really, Niki? You chose work over celebrating with your friends?” The answer to this is NO! We enjoyed cooking AND celebrating with this sweet couple. Since we were invited as guests, we enjoyed busting a move on the dance floor after dinner and before we headed back to our kitchen in Fowler to do all the dishes. It was the perfect harmony of work and play.

There was an array of dietary restrictions we were able to navigate for their guests. Although this was a bit of a pain, I’m happy we were able to accommodate each guest and their dietary guidelines. Everyone seemed happy with their meal, and ate until their heart’s content. The newlyweds were able to take a whole lasagna home with them to enjoy later. Bob and I are so grateful to be able to cook and celebrate with people we love. The Armory is an amazing venue to work with, and we’ve enjoyed catering a variety of events held there.

Here is a direct quote from the beautiful bride about working with Boki’s Kitchen: “It felt really good to have friends help us feed our loved ones. We LOVE Boki’s meals, and it was cool to share one of our favorite things (your lasagna!) with everyone we love.” —Emily

The Golden Collective matrimony was an incredible day, and everything went as planned. We enjoyed being included as their friends and as their caterer. Not every wedding will look like this one, but when there’s a personal connection and when you care about your friends, greatness can and will happen. Together, we made it a pleasurable experience for wedding catering while connecting humans over a wholesome meal.
